Making our voices heard at the Statehouse.
Kelsey Kauffman stands for democracy and due process for all people. She opposes ICE, mass deportation, white nationalism, and cruelty in any form of government. These policies do not reflect her values—or the values of many people in Putnam and Montgomery Counties.

A life built in community.

Why I'm running
I am running because voters who oppose the most extreme politics deserve a voice and a name on the ballot that reflects their values. Casting a vote should never feel futile. My candidacy exists so that Hoosiers who are deeply concerned about the direction of our state and country can register that concern clearly and publicly.
This campaign is not about demonizing individuals. It is about policies, values, and consequences — and about speaking plainly rather than spinning positions to win elections. Although many of the most troubling policies we face originate at the federal level, the Indiana General Assembly may be the most important line of defense available to protect Hoosiers from their worst effects. I believe it is worth saying so — out loud, and on the record.
Issues that matter.
Plain talk on the policies shaping life in Putnam and Montgomery Counties — and what Kelsey will fight for at the Statehouse.
Education
Our local schools are the heart of this community. Kelsey will fight to protect them from Statehouse budget games that put corporate tax breaks ahead of our children.
Read Kelsey's standHealthcare
No family should have to drive an hour to see a doctor. Kelsey will fight to keep our hospitals open, expand mental health services, and protect the care our families depend on.
Read Kelsey's standEconomy and Jobs
We have good jobs in this district. But when hardworking families can't find affordable housing or keep up with rising costs, something is out of balance.
Read Kelsey's standProperty Taxes
They called it property tax relief. But when families with modest homes pay more while corporations get $2 million breaks, that is not relief — that is a shell game.
Read Kelsey's standChildcare
A parent in Putnam County has fewer than 10 licensed childcare options for the entire county. Three accept infants. That is families falling through the cracks.
Read Kelsey's standImmigration
Immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility. When the Statehouse forces our county sheriffs to act as federal agents without funding or training, it does not make us safer — it pulls resources from the calls that matter.

Indiana House District 44 is home to farmers, teachers, small-business owners, students at DePauw and Wabash, retirees, tradespeople, and neighbors who know each other by name. It's covered bridges and courthouse squares, cornfields at sunset and Friday-night football.
House District 44 covers all of Putnam County and the western portion of Montgomery County.

“Teaching in classrooms, not boardrooms.”
A teacher, mother, grandmother — and your neighbor.

A Greencastle resident since 1987, Kelsey is a mother of three, grandmother of three, and at 78, she is training for her first triathlon this June.

We win together.
Kelsey is proud to stand alongside the Putnam and Montgomery County Democrats and every Democratic candidate on the ballot this November.
